Here's a turkey near and dear to my heart. When I was a kid, our family didn't celebrate holidays, so you could never expect to enjoy the decadence of a hollow chocolate turkey. But, for some reason, I got a See's turkey, and it was heaven.
Back then, as I recall, they came in white boxes with a pane of cellophane that allowed you to see in the box. The foil came later. And the turkey tasted delicious, as it does now. I savored the memory of that turkey and longed for the day I could have another. And that day has come!
It appears to me as though the Thanksgiving candy experience is really a regional thing... local chocolatiers such as See's have been making the holiday candies for decades, and that's what people remember, at least when it comes to Thanksgiving. Thanks for the memories, See's!
