These were a couple of very early acquisitions for the collection. Popular for a brief time in the 70s, if you couldn't guess. These are boxes, to me, that get more precious with every year that passes by. They really capture that 70s style of packaging and humor. They remind me of going to the movies when I was a kid. "Rinkles" even looks like Goofy Grape's lost cousin, wearing a fat guy cap. Concerning Super Nut, you could only get away with wearing a thong like that on a box of candy back in the super-sexy 70s.
I found these pins in an antique store in Adamstown, PA. I think I'm the only person on the planet who truly deserves to own these, so it was a fortunate bit of fate. I can't find any information about Rinkles' Vice Presidential campaign, but I think I vaguely remember this. I believe Super Nut was running for president. This was back in the late 60s/early 70s when you had guys like Pat Paulsen running for President. Politics were more fun back then!
